Thankfulness Thursday Week 5 of 2014

Today is January, 30th.

Sunday started my bout with the sickness that has taken over our household. Doctor's visit on Monday confirmed pharyngitis and laryngitis. No fun at all. Home sick for the last 5 days has been hard for me. Not being able to talk above a whisper and having the feeling of needles in your throat. YUCK!!!

This is what was outside my door on Tuesday morning:

Along with this came some noise. Cutting asphalt at 7:30 or so in the morning.

I am so thankful I was already awake and that my bedroom is at the back of the house away from this noise.

I am also thankful for ibuprofen 400 to 600 mg every 4 hours that has kept the pain bearable.

I am also thankful that this is the first time in 9 years that I have been this sick.

Here is to February may it be a month with less sickness.

Thnakfulness Thursday Week 4 of 2014

Today is January 23rd.

This has been a much better week. The kids had a 3 day weekend and the hubby was off on Monday too. The youngest is slowly recovering and had a little melt down on Tuesday before school but once I picked him up he was all smiles. I had 2 glorious days to myself to get errands done.

This week I am thankful that we had some family time on Monday. I am thankful that my youngest apologized for his melt down and I was pleasantly surprised by that. I am thankful that we were finally able to get our youngest a bass guitar. I am thankful that the dentist was available last Friday for the hubby's crown replacement. I am thankful that I have sister lunch this Saturday. I am thankful that although my oldest is now sick he listens and does what I ask to get better.

Thankful Thursday Week 3 of 2014

Today is January 16th.

Today I am thankful for another day that the Lord has given me.

Today I am thankful that it is a nice sunny warm day in our Southwest desert home.

Today I am thankful that I have a great family that loves me.

Today I am thankful that I have a nice home to live in.

Today I am thankful that I have an abundance of clothing to wear.

Today I am thankful that I have an abundance of food in my pantry, freezer and fridge.

Today I am thankful for the work that the Lord has given me in raising boys.

Today I am thankful for this "living in the middle" that will continue for many years.

  1. When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
    • Refrain:
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God hath done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
*Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.
[*And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.]
  2. Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,
And you will keep singing as the days go by.
  3. When you look at others with their lands and gold,
    Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
Count your many blessings—*money cannot buy [*wealth can never buy]
Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.
  4. So, amid the conflict whether great or small,
    Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

This is so far a trying year for me and I am so glad that the Lord laid it on my heart to post Thankful Thursdays. When the days get bad I think okay there has to be something to write about for Thursday. Hope your 2014 is shaping up well.

Thankfulness Thursday, Week 2 of 2014

Today is January 9th. This week most of the public school students went back to school after Christmas break. It is called Winter break but I call it Christmas break. There is so much snow in places like Indiana that the children cannot go back yet. At my home my youngest has a virus that has lasted at least 5 days so he has been home the past 3 days. Needless to say that has put a damper on the plans I had for this week - like putting the Christmas tree and decorations away and straightening up the entire house. I was able to clean and arrange the drawers in our master bath and under the sink on my side. I was also able to straighten out our linen closet since we purchased new towels. While finishing cleaning under the sink I was finding room for nail polish so I shook all of the polish making sure they were still okay for use. One of them broke and sent polish all over the place. I just had to laugh because I needed to shower and get to work in the next 45 minutes. I was able to clean it all up and manage to not make too big of a mess.

So today I am thankful for nail polish remover with and without acetone, children back in school and the patience to get though this past week.

give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Thankfulness Thurday Week 1 of 2014

Today is the 2nd of January. Twenty-six years ago today was the day that it was revealed to my husband that I was the one for him. You see my hubby had prayed for a wife for several years and he had basically given up the idea of finding "the one". We had known each other for a couple of years through our weekly Friday Night Bible Study group at church and my hubby thought that I was too young for him although he admired me from afar. On January first 1988 we attended Bible study and normally someone suggested an activity to do afterword such as going to eat or going to a movie, this time everyone wanted to see a movie except my hubby and me so we decided to go eat out together just as friends. It was a great dinner and time just visiting with each other and seeing some sights of our city. We had so much fun together that I didn't make it back to my apartment until 5am. We had stopped at one of our city's spots that showed old movies and the movies were over for the night so we decided to come back the next night and see the movie "The Three Musketeers" with Gene Kelly. He picked me up and we went to the movie and then on to the Olive Garden. It was there that he was staring at me trying to make me feel uncomfortable (and he was) when the Lord said to him, "Don't stare at her, look at her. This is the one I have for you". My hubby says that it was like a curtain was opened and he saw me. Now did the Lord tell me? No. We finished our meal and he took me home. The next day we saw each other at church and we still were just being friends. On Monday I called his home to invite him to dinner the following Saturday because I was taught to reciprocate and he had insisted on paying for our movie and meal. He accepted and came over for ham, scalloped potatoes and asparagus (I thought he said he liked it). It was a nice meal and he finally "made his move" and kissed me. We have been together ever since and will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary in April. No the Lord never told me that he was the one but I still know he is.

So today I am thankful for the perseverance of my hubby in asking for a wife and being specific enough to write down little details that he wanted in his wife. I am thankful that the Lord provided for both my hubby and me to be "the one" for each other. I am thankful that after 26 years I still enjoy being with him and look forward to the next 26 years together.

Happy New Year 2014

I hope that your new year is going well so far. I hope that this year brings great joy for you and ask you to seek the Lord with all your heart.

But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him
with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 4:29

Now for a little reflection of last year. I had two goals that I posted back in January 2013. Did I stick with them throughout the entire year? Yes and no. Yes I posted every week what I spent on food for our family. No I did not stay within the $100 each week goal. Am I disappointed? No way! I am so proud of myself for being consistent in posting every single week of the year. I did not read through the Bible this past year either. For some reason it is a struggle for me in that area.

New year new goals. This year I would like to post every Thursday a thankfulness post. I find that there is so much to be thankful for and sometimes I am not as thankful as I should be. I have participated in sharing what I am thankful each day in November several years on Facebook and it is a great reminder of how our Lord takes care of us in even the little things. Not sure as to what other goals I will be doing yet. Do you have any goals for 2014?

Happy New Year!!!
