Thankfulness Thursday February 27th & How being married to a drummer is different.

When my hubby and I were first dating I knew that he was a drummer. He had talked about it in Bible Study and I knew that he could sing (he was in the choir and led a quartet). What I didn't realize is how much a drummer is thinking/playing/doing drumming. Here are a few things that I have found that are different when you are married to a drummer.

When you are in the car and the blinker is going he is tapping a rhythm with his hands and feet to the time of the blinker.

When you are sitting anywhere be it church, the dinner table, in front of the TV or in the doctor's office he is tapping his foot and playing a rhythm in his head.

When the movie "Drumline" comes on especially the last 20 minutes you and he will watch it even though you have seen it at least a hundred times and have the DVD.

When your youngest is only six he will be able to "play with the big guys" for an entire song and keep the rhythm.

Air drums are played often with and without drum sticks.

Sometimes you will wake up to the noise of drum sticks hitting couch cushions.

A drum set doubles as decoration during Christmas time. (It's great to hang lights on.)

When your oldest goes to middle school band selection and the director strongly encourages him to play the clarinet your hubby will let him know that his child wants to play percussion. The director will state that he needs a year of piano first and the child will surpass that in 4 months and become a leader in the band department and one of select few that will be able to play the synthesizer in high school.

When you awake in the middle of the night because of an earthquake you will think that he is tapping a rhythm with his foot. He will show you by the swaying of the blinds that in fact you were awakened by the movement of an earthquake.

Today is February 27th and I am thankful to be married to my drummer of a husband and especially thankful that he chose a regular job instead of a life on the road as a drummer.

Thankfulness Thursday Week 8 of 2014

Today is February 20th.

If you are reading this I am thankful for you. This lonely little blog does not get much traffic but that is okay by me. This is a cathartic thing for me. I am not a writer and I am sorry if I sometimes run away with different ideas.

I am thankful for many things today. The bright sunshine but cool breeze. The single day off and time spent with my hubby. The sickness getting better at our home (now if the pulled muscle will heal). The youngest finally getting a play date with his buddy tomorrow. Sister lunch on Saturday (it will be just 2 of us instead of 3).

Have a good week.

Thankfulness Thursday Week 7 of 2014

Today is February 13th.

Have you ever had one of those days/weeks/months where you feel like everyone is pulling at you and where is the time for you? Well that is where I am in this moment. TIRED of the sickness that has been in our home since the first of the year. Tired of the forgetfulness and depression that hubby suffers. Tired of trying to be everything to everyone.

Here are some of the things I am thankful for this week. Tomorrow is Willy Wonka day at our house. The kids have a 4 day weekend. My MIL is finally able to stay with us since we are somewhat better. Not one of us has had to go to the hospital for our illness. There is still food in the pantry and money in the bank. Tuesday will be a day off for me - MIL back at sis in law's, kids in school, hubby at work.

Happy Valentine's Day.

Thankfulness Thursday Week 6 of 2014

Today is February 6th

My youngest has a field trip today to the Wetlands to celebrate Wetlands day. So excited for him. My kids NEVER get to ride the bus - we live too close to their schools. Isn't it funny that the thing they look forward to is the bus ride? They are chartering a bus since they will be gone most of the day and the district needs the buses for school pickup.

We are still in the midst of this virus in our home. YUCK!! I'm sure everyone I know is enjoying me not talking. Ha ha! Just kidding. I have found that I need to choose my words for I need to minimize the use of my voice. The oldest was pulled aside by a teacher wondering if he had bronchitis. So nice that the teachers really care. We have deep barking coughs (the oldest and me). It is normal though because that is the way we cough - deeply. We are doing better and I am so thankful for that and for the caring of others. I was invited to attend an impromptu dinner with some ladies from my church last Friday and I was unable to attend but to be thought of was wonderful. I am so thankful for my church family. I know that as busy as we all are that they will be there for me and love me just as Jesus does - unconditionally.

Lots to be thankful for and God is good - all the time.
